A real person, not a startup

Edmund is made by one developer, in England, who got tired of losing good ideas to the gap between having them and filing them.

Will Wilson

Hello, I’m Will. I build Edmund on my own: the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Watch apps, this website, and the bits in between. Everything else I make and write about lives at www.mojowill.com.

Edmund started as a personal itch. I have most of my good thoughts at the worst possible moment: mid-conversation, going for a run, halfway through something else. The thought arrives fully formed and leaves just as quickly, because filing it properly takes more effort than having it did. Pick a list, pick a project, write a title, add a tag. By the time you’ve done all that, the thought’s gone and so is your train of thought.

So I built the thing I wanted: a place where you capture first and decide never. You type it or say it, and an on-device model works out what it is and where it belongs. You glance at the Inbox when it suits you, confirm Edmund’s call, and either keep it or send it onward as a proper issue. The deciding is the app’s job. The thinking stays yours.

Why it’s built this way

Two decisions shaped everything. First, it runs on your device. Your half-formed thoughts are the most personal thing you could hand an app, so they don’t leave your phone. The triage happens locally, there’s no account, and sync runs through your own iCloud. I never see your notes, and I’ve built it so I can’t.

Second, it’s built for every screen you own. The same calm app on your phone, your iPad and your Mac, each one feeling like it belongs there: the right fonts, the right gestures, the little details. Capture on one, pick it up on another. It should feel at home on your Home Screen, because it was made to.

How it’s funded

Edmund is free to download, with a generous free tier that isn’t feature-gated. You get the whole app, with a natural ceiling. Pro is a small subscription that removes the limits. No ads, no data sold, no investors to please. Just people paying a fair price for software they find useful, which is the only business model I trust to keep the incentives honest.

What’s next

More places to route to, more capture surfaces, and a steady stream of small refinements. I won’t list things here that don’t ship. When something’s ready, it’ll be in the app. If you’ve an idea, a bug, or just a thought, I read every message.
